404. Monsters Like Taking Our Metaphors Literally

They say you should not play with your food. But the more clever the meal, the more exciting the chase. Don’t you agree?

I, myself, delight in the sublime thrill of the chase. And the more worthy the prey, the longer I draw out the game, pulling and pushing my pawns around the gameboard until I am ready to make a kill move. There’s nothing like it: The exaltation of getting inside my prey’s head toying with their thoughts and emotions until they become cloudy with confusion and resignation.

It is only after this lengthy marinade in fear and self disgust that I prefer to take my first bite. As I have been known to say, then is the best “opportunity to chew quite literally what we’ve only been able to chew figuratively.”
