154. Monsters Like Gothic, Southern Cities

You humans may have heard the undead are cold. Not cold-hearted, necessarily – though we are often that too. No, we are cold. Literally.

Nasty side effect of lack of blood flow.

For that reason, we have migrated South over the years, to places of culture and mystery that can feed our desires while also keeping us from freezing in our crypts overnight.

Louisiana is one of our favorite regions. Not only is it unbearably hot and muggy, but it has one of our favorite places in the world: New Orleans.

Creole culture is so funny. They believe in monsters. They believe in voodoo. And yet when they see us walking around in the graveyard, they are scared out of their wits.

But not Big Easy resident and spooky author Anne Rice. She always understood us. She always saw New Orleans as it really is – where “evil is always possible [and] goodness is a difficulty.”
