Today is the day!
Mutants, beasts, and horrible freaks all around the galaxy run rampant every year on July 27 in celebration.
Intergalactic Hug A Monster Day is the only holiday reminding all of humanity and peace-loving extraterrestrials to embrace the monsters in their lives – whatever they may be. Humans the world over are encouraged to grab their best monster friend, evil lawn gnomes, and other minutia of the macabre and give them a big squeeze. Hug them in public, in private, in front of cameras, and share with the world.
And Stuff Monsters Like wants to reward you for your public displays of aberrant affection!
The Head Monsters at SML are double-daring you to find your favorite horror toys, embrace them, make a photo, and send the photos to us. Our undead judges will pick a few winners – based on creativity, photogenic monsters, and general awesomeness. Winners will be featured on the blog, and a grand winner will receive a limited edition SML poster and bumper sticker.
Not everyone owns a monster toy. But don’t worry – we’ve got you covered. You can download, print, and fold our specially designed papercraft monsters. Create your own friend, or even a full monster hoard.
We will be accepting submissions through Friday, August 3 at 2:00 EST. Submit all your photos to our Facebook page or Twitter. Or email them to us at stuffmonsterslike@gmail.com.
Can’t wait to see what monsters you’ve scared up to love and admire!
Celebrating Hug A Monster Day in Asheville, NC this year?
Asheville art gallery ZaPow! and SpellBound Children’s Bookshop are teaming up with the blog StuffMonstersLike.com to bring you a live Hug A Monster Day event.
Spellbound invites the youngsters for monster fun from noon until 3:00 pm. Bring your spooky toys, dress as your favorite monster, or just come as you are. A photo booth will be available to capture the moments. Additional monster toys will be provided for hugging. Children can also enjoy monster crafts and story time.
From 7:00 to 9:00 pm, the grownup ghouls are invited to ZaPow! to co-mingle with the spirits. Bring Your Own Monsters (BYOM) as the festivities continue. Beer will be provided by French Broad Brewery, and the Hop Ice Cream Cafe will be on hand with several delicious flavors. Monster folk musician Ben Wilson will play his collection of zany songs that will terrify you as you howl with laughter. Pose with your favorite beast or mutant in the photo booth.
See you there!
