387. Monsters Like Appearing in a Familiar Corporeal Form

The finest trick of the devil is to persuade you that he does not exist, or so the saying goes.

That may be the case for “THE” devil, but what of other, lesser evil creatures? We can’t speak for them all, but we can share the technique that works best for us.

We find that garnering trust from our victims makes the game more convenient and more fun. We both know that the only reason we haven’t killed you yet is because we need your help in order to meet reach our endgame. And it is so much more convenient to get you to do what we need if we don’t have to trick and cajole you every step of the way.

So, we make ourselves to look like someone you loved. Perhaps someone you’ve lost. You may not believe us fully – and you’re probably right not to – but suggestions coming from the face of a dead loved one sound so much more trustworthy, don’t you think?

Because there’s nothing trustworthy about a howling smoke monster.
