499. Monsters Like Morse Code

You say the house doesn’t want people living in it. From your experience, the slamming doors and self-shattering mirrors are “signs of evil.”

Well, maybe. But as the spirit of the house, in more than one sense, I respectfully disagree.

Those noises you hear at night—the banging, the the whispers, the wailing of the wind through unmoving trees—that isn’t the house trying to force you away. That’s the house trying desperately to communicate.
