59. Monsters Like Spotty Wiring Systems

One of the ways monsters like to make a powerful impression is by making their victims power-less.

Literally.

Monsters like to cut the power. When you’re tired, when you’re worn down, when you think you’ve finally found a storm window in the basement that hasn’t been boarded over and that maybe your skinny friend with the weak ankles can fit through. When nothing could possibly be worse, suddenly the lights go our.

It’s probably just a faulty fuse. One of you has a flashlight or a cell phone or a pocket lighter. Maybe you can make it to the fuse box to fix it. After all, what better way to distract your attacker while you’re running around in an old house you are unfamiliar with than to play right into his trap!

Silly humans.
